STORRS – Head coach Dan Hurley and the UConn men's basketball team have signed a trio of newcomers to aid agreements to bolster the 2025-26 roster. Dwayne Koroma, a 6-8 forward, joins the Huskies with one season of eligibility as a transfer from Le Moyne. Jacob Ross, a 6-5 wing, will matriculate as a freshman this fall. Alec Millender, a 6-1 guard, comes to Storrs from IU Indy after four years at Wayne State and has one season remaining.
"The staff has done a tremendous job in rounding out our incoming class," Hurley said. "The combination of potential, experience, talent and skill will be a tremendous help to our program as we pursue our championship goals."
Koroma comes to Storrs for his fourth year of D-I basketball and his fifth collegiate season. He began his career at Iona in 2020-21, making 12 starts and averaging 2.7 points and 3.4 rebounds in 15.4 minutes per game for a Gaels squad that won the MAAC and reached an NCAA Tournament. Koroma then spent 2021-23 at Salt Lake Community College, missing the '21-22 season before averaging 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in 2022-23 and ranking fifth in the NJCAA with a 70.1 field goal percentage.
"Dwayne is a physical, talented big who can play a variety of roles for us," Hurley said. "His game experience is extremely valuable and he is coming off his best season. Dwayne is an efficient scorer and gets on the glass, which is crucial to our success."
The native of Berlin, Germany moved on to UT-Arlington for the 2023-24 season and averaged 4.3 points and 2.7 rebounds on 66.7 percent shooting in 14.6 minutes per game. At Le Moyne last season he had a breakout junior campaign, averaging 11.5 points and a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game. Starting 30 contests, Koroma shot 71.4 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from 3-point range in a career-high 28.3 minutes per game.
Before matriculating at Iona, Koroma spent his 2019-20 senior season in the United States at Bishop Walsh School in Cumberland, Maryland.
The younger brother of rising junior Jayden Ross, Jacob Ross comes to Connecticut as a three-star prospect. Ross will head to Storrs after spending a season prepping at SoCal Academy in Castaic, Calif. Previously, he attended Long Island Lutheran alongside Jayden.
"Jacob Ross obviously comes from a great family we know well and will fit in seamlessly with our culture," Hurley said. "He is a gifted athlete who has played on winning teams. We're excited about his development and can't wait to get him to campus."
Ross is a composite three-star prospect, ranked in the top-200 overall, top-50 at his position and top-25 in the state of California. ESPN ranks Ross as the 31st small forward in his class and the 14th best prospect coming out of California.
Originally from Bristow, Va., Ross was a double-figure scorer this season at SoCal. At SoCal he played alongside St. John's pledge Kelvin Odih and Pacific commit Kellen Hampton, as well as top-100 prospect Tyler Jackson who is uncommitted and deciding between multiple high majors.
Millender will suit up for the Huskies with a wealth of collegiate experience. He spent the '24-25 at IU Indy, making 25 starts for the Jaguars over 32 appearances. Millender averaged 8.2 points, 3.7 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the floor and 43.5 percent from 3-point range. He ranked 12th nationally and led the Horizon League with a 2.95 assist/turnover ratio and posted 12 double-digit scoring games.
"Alec is a guard that has played in a ton of games and has consistently leveled up. He can score, distribute and has turned into an excellent outside shooter," Hurley said. "His toughness and game experience will fit in well with our program and we're excited about what he can bring."
Prior to IU Indy, Millender spent four seasons at Division II Wayne State. As a freshman in the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season he was All-NSIC South Division Honorable mention after scoring 10.8 points per game in 16 starts. He was a double-figure scorer as a sophomore in 2021-22, posting 10.0 points and ranking among the NSIC leaders with 2.7 assists per game.
The Chicago-native missed the 2022-23 season as a medical redshirt before having his best season at Wayne State in 2023-24. Millender scored 13.2 points per game while starting all 30 contests and led the Wildcats in assists and minutes per game. Prior to his time at WSC, he played four years at Saint Rita of Cascia High School in Chicago where he was an All-Chicago Catholic League First Team pick.
The newcomers join a crop of fresh faces for '25-26 that includes freshmen Jacob Furphy, Braylon Mullins and Eric Reibe along with previously signed transfers Silas Demary Jr. and Malachi Smith. The three newcomers join a strong core of returners including Solo Ball, Alex Karaban, Tarris Reed Jr., Jayden Ross and Jaylin Stewart.
