BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 3 seed UConn softball team (35-19) were eliminated from the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, falling to No. 10 LSU, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Park.
The Huskies finish a historic season with their fourth straight 30-win season, setting new program records for runs scored, doubles, home runs, RBIs, batting average, walks, and total bases.
Payton Kinney made her 36th start of the season in the circle for the Huskies. Kinney went 3.0 innings giving up two earned runs on five hits, adding a strikeout. Kinney finishes her final season in Storrs with a 15-7 record in the circle.
LSU opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, plating a run on a bases loaded walk. Kinney was able to limit the damage to just a run, getting three straight outs, stranding the bases loaded.
LSU added two runs to their lead in the second inning, extending the Tigers lead to 3-0.
Hope Jenkins came on in relief for Kinney in the middle of the second inning, making her 33rd appearance of the season in the circle. Jenkins did well to limit the potent Tigers offense, tossing four scoreless innings, keeping the Huskies within striking distance.
Kinney re-entered the circle for Jenkins in the middle of the sixth inning, closing out the final five outs for the Huskies.
UConn was limited to five hits by LSU starter Sydney Berzon who tossed a complete game for the Tigers.
