Four Huskies Named to NFCA All-Region Teams

STORRS, Conn. – Four Huskies garnered NFCA All-Regions honors, headlined by First Teamers Grace Jenkins and Kaitlyn Breslin. Payton Kinney was selected to the second team while Cat Petteys earned third team honors. The four selections are the most the Huskies have produced since 2000.
Junior catcher Grace Jenkins (Folsom, Calif.) continues to collect accolades this season as she earned NFCA All-Region First Team honors for the first time in her career. Jenkins has had a career year at the plate, posting career highs in batting average (.425), hits (71), doubles (19), home runs (21), RBI (68), runs scored (65), walks (36), slugging percentage (.916), and on-base percentage (.531). Behind the dish as the Huskies starting catcher this season, she holds a .990 fielding percentage with 191 putouts and 13 assists. She has started in all 52 games this season.
Sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Breslin (Hopkinton, Mass.) earns NFCA All-Region First Team honors after a breakout sophomore campaign. After not seeing many at bats in her freshman season, Breslin has broken out in her second season with the Huskies, hitting .380 with 57 hits, 23 being extra base hits, posting a .753 slugging percentage and .457 on-base percentage. Breslin ranks second on the roster with 16 home runs, and 53 RBI behind Jenkins. She has started in 51 out of 52 games in right field this season.
Graduate student pitcher Payton Kinney (Bradenton, Fla.) was named to the NFCA All-Region Second Team for the first time in her career. Kinney has had an outstanding year in the circle for the Huskies, posting a 15-5 record in 34 appearances with six complete games. In her 133.0 innings pitched, she owns a 2.37 era with 92 strikeouts, holding opposing batters to a .205 batting average against her.
Freshman infielder Cat Petteys (Vestal, N.Y.) receives NFCA All-Region Third Team honors after a phenomenal rookie season for the Huskies. Petteys has posted eye popping numbers in her first season in a UConn uniform recording all-time program rookie highs in batting average (.409), home runs (14), and RBI (46). The New York native has 63 hits, 27 extra base hits, with 22 walks, posting a .779 slugging percentage and .497 on-base percentage. Petteys has started in 51 out of 52 games at shortstop this season for the Huskies.
