STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team (8-3-3) heads to Providence for a pivotal BIG EAST matchup on Saturday, October 25. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm and will be streamed on ESPN+.
UConn is currently tied in second place in the East Division with Providence and Seton Hall, all sitting on nine points. The three teams are currently tied for third place in the overall BIG EAST standings with just three crucial conference matches remaining in the regular season. FULL STANDINGS
UConn is coming off a 1-0 win over conference rival St. John's a weekend ago. Senior forward Charlie Holmes was the hero, netting the game-winning goal in the 84th minute. Holmes has five goals this season, one behind the Huskies leading goal scorer, Austin Brummett (6). Holmes earned a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll for his performance against the Johnnies, while redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Durham earned his third BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors this season. Durham has made 68 saves, resulting in six clean sheets this season.
A Look at Providence
The Providence Friars are coming off a 1-0 over Marquette last week. The Friars have won three out of their last four BIG EAST matches. Providence is coached by Craig Stewart entering his 14th season. The Friars, last year's runner-up in the BIG EAST Tournament were selected to finish in second place in the East Division in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning two first place votes. Providence is powered by a veteran forward group featuring Bruno Rosa, Sam Montalto, and Ian Abbey who have led the Friars in scoring this season.
Series History
The last time these two teams met was in the 2024 BIG EAST Quarterfinal where Providence ended UConn's season with a 2-0 result at Chapey Field. While UConn holds a commanding 35-12-2 advantage in the all-time series, Providence has had the upper hand in recent years, winning five of the last six meetings since the Huskies rejoined the BIG EAST.
