STORRS, Conn. – No. 8 UConn women's hockey (4-2) hits the road this weekend as the Huskies are set to take on the Mercyhurst Lakers in a two-game series. The series is set to begin on Friday, October 24 at 3:00pm. The series will conclude on Saturday, October 25 at 1:00pm. Both games will be streamed on FloHockey.
UConn is coming off a series sweep of Princeton a weekend ago. The Huskies have won three straight games, all coming against top 15 opponents. The win streak has propelled UConn up three spots in the national polls to No. 8 in the USCHO poll and No. 9 in the USA Hockey poll.
Reigning Hockey East Goaltender of the Year Tia Chan has had a strong start to her graduate season campaign. Chan earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors after a stellar weekend against Princeton, as she tied a career high in Friday's win, making 48 saves. She followed with another tremendous performance on Saturday, earning her first shutout of the season, making 33 saves in UConn's 3-0 win over Princeton. Chan has already picked up two Hockey East Goaltender of the Week's this season.
A Look at Mercyhurst
The Mercyhurst Lakers have lost their last three straight games, all coming against top 15 opponents in Penn State and St. Lawrence. The Lakers fell out of the national polls after spending the last two weeks in the top 15. Mercyhurst is coached by Michael Sisti entering his 27th season. The Lakers were voted to finish in second place in the AHA Preseason Coaches' Poll. Sophomore forward Julia Schalin was named to the All-AHA Preseason Team. Schalin led all AHA rookies last season with 14 goals and 18 assists.
Series History
The last time these two programs met was during the 2019-20 season in the third-place game on the Ice Breaker Challenge. Mercyhurst came out on top, 3-1. UConn is 1-8-2 all-time against Mercyhurst. The lone Huskies win came during the 2008-09 season in Storrs, 3-2.
