WSOC BIG EAST Tourney Bound After Shutout Win At DePaul

CHICAGO – The UConn women's soccer team (10-3-3, 6-1-2 BIG EAST) defeated DePaul (4-11-1, 1-6-1 BIG EAST), 1-0, on a windy Wednesday afternoon at Wish Field.
With the victory the Huskies have clinched a spot into the four-team BIG EAST Championship that begins on Thursday, November 6.
The Huskies controlled the majority of play in the first half with a 7-4 edge in shots and a 7-0 discrepancy in corner kick opportunities.
Senior Chioma Okafor had two of the Huskies four shots on goal in the opening salvo.
UConn capitalized on its eighth corner kick of the match about five minutes in the second, with Maree-Anne Van Doesburg serving a dime to Okafor and the Blantrye, Malawi native headed home her eighth goal of the year.
It is the third helper of the season for the freshman Van Doesburg.
Ava Yamas and the UConn defense captured its 10th shutout of the season, tying the amount of shutouts they had during 23 games in 2024. It is the ninth shutout for Yamas this year and the reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week made two saves.
UConn has now won 10 games in a season for the third-straight year. The first time doing that since 2014-2016. The Huskies have also won six BIG EAST matches this season, tying the most conference wins since 2023.
UConn will wrap the regular season on Saturday, October 25 at 6 pm at Seton Hall.
