JAMAICA, NY - The UConn women's soccer team (6-1-2, 0-0-1 BIG EAST) rallied from a three-goal deficit to earn a point on the road in its BIG EAST opener at St. John's, 3-3, on Sunday afternoon at Belson Stadium.

It was the first time in program history that the Huskies earned a result after going three goals down.

UConn entered the 34th minute trailing 3-0 after St. John's scored three times in a 10-minute span. In the 34th minute, Chioma Okafor converted her third penalty kick of the season to start the comeback. It is the seventh goal of the season for the UConn striker, a new career-best for the Blantyre, Malawi native.

The Huskies weren't done in the first half, trimming the deficit to 3-2 on a corner kick opportunity in the 40th minute. Senior Sophie McCartthy found Lucy Cappadona on her service inside the box. The graduate student headed home her first goal of the season to get the Huskies within one heading into the halftime break.

UConn picked up where they left off in first half with more pressure and opportunities to begin the second half. The Huskies found their equalizer on another corner kick chance in the 50th minute. Senior Joyce Ryder served a perfect ball that found the head of frshman Naia Ocio. The Bilbao, Spain native's equalizer was her second goal of the season.

The Huskies continued to apply pressure to try and take its first lead of the game, out shooting St. John's 15-1 in the second half, but couldn't find the final tally and settling for a 3-3 draw.

UConn finished the game with a 24-6 advantage in shots and 9-3 edge in corners.

Next up, the Huskies stay on the road for a BIG EAST matchup at Xavier on Thursday, September 26 at 7 p.m.
