Softball falls on first day at the Clemson Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. – UConn softball dropped their opening two games at the Clemson Classic on Friday afternoon. The Huskies fell to Ole Miss, 2-1 in game one and 6-3 in game two against Miami (OH).
Game One:
Hallie Siems got the nod in the circle in game one, making her sixth start of the season. She went 3.2 innings, giving up two runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
UConn opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. Hope Jenkins knocked in her third RBI of the year, putting one in the gap in right center field, scoring Rosie Garcia from first base.
Ole Miss took the lead with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, putting the Rebels ahead 2-1.
Meghan O'Neil came on in relief for Siems in the fourth inning. She finished out the game in the circle for the Huskies tossing 2.1 scoreless innings only giving up one hit and adding two strikeouts.
The Huskies kept fighting but could not get the tying run across.
Game Two:
Payton Kinney started in game two for the Huskies. In her third start of the season, she went 4.0 innings giving up three runs on four hits with one strikeout.
Miami jumped out to an early lead off a solo home run in the first inning. The RedHawks added two more runs to their lead in the fourth inning making it 3-0.
In the bottom half of the fourth inning, Hope Jenkins once again kick started the Huskies offense with a two out double, her third extra base hit of the day. Taylor Zatyk brought in Jenkins knocking in her first RBI of the season with a single up the middle, making it 3-1.
Sydnee Koosh came in relief for Kinney in the fifth inning making her fifth appearance of the season. She went 1.0 inning giving up two runs on two hits adding a strikeout.
Miami got a run back off another solo home run in the fifth inning.
O'Neil came in relief for Koosh in the sixth inning. She finished out the game in the circle giving up one run one two hits with three strikeouts.
UConn responded with two runs in the fifth inning as Jana Sanden homered for the fourth time in her last six games. Her two run shot to left field brought the Huskies to within a run, 4-3.
Miami came right back scoring two runs of their own in the sixth inning, making it a three run deficit again, 6-3.
Up Next:
The Huskies return to action tomorrow, as they matchup with the host school, no. 9 Clemson. First pitch is set for 4:00pm and will be streamed on ESPN+.
