Huskies Fall to #12 Syracuse on Senior Day

STORRS, Conn. - Â The UConn women's field hockey team fell to no.12 Syracuse in the final home game of the 2024 regular season. The Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second half but two unanswered goals in the fourth quarter by the Orange propelled them to the 3-1 victory.
The battle between the Huskies and Orange got off to a wild start as the Orange scored off a redirection 30 seconds into the start of the game. After a lengthy review by the officials, the goal was disallowed, and the teams remained scoreless. After the goal was called back, both defenses settled in. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first or second quarter as the teams entered the half scoreless.
In the second half, the Huskies offense came alive, as freshman Milaw Clause was left alone in front of the net on a penalty corner and was able to redirect the shot by Sophie Perschk for the goal. It didn't take long for Syracuse to respond as they were able to tie the game late in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was all orange as they were able to net two goals, one being an empty net as UConn elected to pull goalkeeper Natalie McKenna while looking to tie the game. With the loss, the Huskies lose their first home game of the 2024 season and fall to 14-3 overall.
UP NEXT: Â UConn will hit the road as they travel to Old Dominion for the final game of the 2024 regular season. The game against Old Dominion will help determine seeding for the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. Currently UConn and Old Dominion are in contention for the first overall seed.
