Huskies Dominate Bobcats, Remain Undefeated in BIG EAST Action

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's field hockey team improves to 4-0 in BIG EAST action after a dominating performance Friday afternoon. The Huskies scored six goals from five different athletes and posted another clean sheet for the win.

From the first whistle, the Huskies instantly jumped out on the attack. UConn maintained possession of the ball for a majority of the game, just waiting to breakthrough for the goal. It didn't take long for the Huskies to find the back of the net as junior Sol Simone took the ball into the circle and fired it through the defense, past the goalkeeper for the first goal of the match. Freshman Sophie Perschk continued to be a threat on offense, scoring her 10 goal of the season moments before halftime to give the Huskies the 2-0 lead heading into the break. The Huskies defense shined in the first half as they held the Bobcats scoreless, and didn't allow a single shot.

The offensive fireworks didn't end in the first half as 30 seconds into the second half, freshman Sophie Perschk was able to net her second goal of the match to give UConn the 3-0 lead. The Bobcats were able to stall the offensive attack of the Huskies briefly, but after finding their groove again, senior Sophia Ugo lobbed a pass over the defense to freshman Isabel Soeters who fired it home for the fourth goal of the match.

The Bobcats first shot of the match came in the 47 minute but was sent wide. After a goalkeeper change to begin the fourth quarter, goalkeeper Gabby Raichel was tested early with a Bobcats attack but made both saves preserving the lead and shutout. The Huskies were able to add two more goals in the fourth quarter, one by freshman Milou Heuker and one by Violeta Francese, her first career goal, to give UConn the 6-0 lead.

With the win, the Huskies improve to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in BIG EAST action. The Huskies have yet to allow a goal in conference matches and remain undefeated at Nancy Stevens Field.
