Huskies shine in split-location races Saturday
4/22/2023 6:07:00 PM | Women's Rowing
The University of Connecticut women's rowing team won two races and placed high in others Saturday with full results below. The Huskies raced in two locations Saturday, at home for a novice race while the varsity boats raced in Rome, NY. The away boats competed at Colgate against Holy Cross, Canisius, Marist, and Robert Morris. UConn's Men's Club Rowing Team played host to the University of New Hampshire and the University of Rhode Island at Coventry Lake.
Away -Â Conditions in Rome were a strong tail wind while the boats raced with the current. All races took place in a heat format with the exception of the 2V4 category. The Huskies switched lineups entirely between heats while other schools only partially reassigned theirs.Â

Of note, the 2V8 and V4 boats took wins while the V8 came in second; a strong feat as the team contends with tough road competition and a re-tuned lineup.Â
As conditions deteriorated, race format changed slightly with the Huskies' 2V4 racing against the Holy Cross 2V4 and the Marist V4.Â
Note: cross-comparing of these times is not accurate due to wind and a floating start

In response to day's events Coach Jen Sanford said, "I am very proud of our performances this weekend. We made a lot lineup changes this week and had very specific things to work on in practice that were executed very well today. The ultimate goal is to find the fastest lineups for the conference championship which is in less than three weeks. We are getting faster and gaining confidence daily and I can't wait to see how we do against Villanova and Delaware next weekend."
