No. 17 UConn, No. 24 UNC to Face Off in HOF Showcase

STORRS, Conn. – The 17th-ranked UConn women's basketball team (5-3) takes on No. 24 North Carolina (6-3) in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase on Sunday at 5 p.m. in Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will air on ESPN and the UConn Sports Network (97-9 WUCS).
UConn is 37-1 all-time in Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Huskies beat Ball State, 90-63, Wednesday evening in Gampel Pavilion. Senior Aaliyah Edwards had her first double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Ashlynn Shade returned to the starting lineup and broke out for a personal-best 17 points vs. Ball State.
UConn is 7-5 all-time vs. North Carolina. This is the teams' first meeting since Jan. 16, 2012. UConn has won the last five meetings between the teams.
North Carolina beat UNC Greensboro, 81-66, Wednesday. This season, Deja Kelly leads the Tar Heels with 16.1 points per game as four players are averaging double-digit figures. Head coach Courtney Banghart is in her fifth season at North Carolina.
UConn has played three ranked teams through eight games. Four of UConn's next six games are against ranked foes (No. 24 North Carolina, No. 18 Louisville, No. 19 Marquette, No. 22 Creighton). All of UConn's losses this season have been to teams that are now in the top-5 of the AP Poll: No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 NC State and No. 5 Texas.
After a break for finals, the Huskies return to action next Saturday against No. 18 Louisville in the XL Center. The Huskies will celebrate memorable moments in the program's history for UConn Eras. UConn will wear throwback uniforms and the first 500 fans will receive a special edition UConn Eras t-shirt.
