Eric Van der Els Closes Career at NCAA's in the 5,000m

EUGENE, Ore. - UConn senior Eric Van Der Els (Norwalk, Conn.) ran his final race as a Husky on Friday night at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, competing in the 5,000 meters at the historic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
Van Der Els finished 20th overall in the race, coming across the line in a time of 13:48.37. He will earn honorable mention All-American honors for his efforts on the track.
The Husky captain qualified for the NCAA Championship for the first time in his career after finishing fourth at the NCAA East Preliminary two weeks ago. He ends his career at UConn as the school record holder in the 5,000 meters outdoors and the 1,000 meters and 3,000 meters indoors. During his time at UConn, he racked up 10 individual race victories on the track and been on five winning relay teams. He won 14 medals at the BIG EAST, American Athletic Conference, IC4A and New England Championships while at UConn.
