Strong Performances Highlight Trips to LSU and SCSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - The UConn men's track and field team sent athletes to a pair of meets on Saturday, with a contingent heading down south to the Joe May Invitational at defending national champion LSU and others competing at the Wilton Wright Invitational at Southern Connecticut State.
The Huskies has some great individual performances at LSU capped by a 1-2 finish in the 800 meters from Mahamed Sharif (Westbrook, Maine) and Joseph Pearl (Manchester, Conn.). Freshman Terrel Willams (Maplewood, N.J.) set a new PR in the 110 meter hurdles and finished fourth and the UConn 4x400 relay team had their fastest time of the season.
At Joe May Invitational
On track…
- The Huskies went 1-2 in the 800 meters as sophomore Mahamed Sharif (Westbrook, Maine) won the event with a time of 1:50.62, his best time this outdoor season. Junior Joseph Pearl (Manchester, Conn.) was second with a time of 1:51.58, also his top-time this spring.
- In the 110 meter hurdles, freshman Terrel Williams (Maplewood, N.J.) clocked a blazing time of 13.90 seconds to finish fourth in the field. It was a new PR for Williams for the second-straight week. Junior Nicholas Pronovost (Coventry, Conn.) set a new PR in the event as well, posting a time of 14.30 seconds to finish seventh.
- UConn's 4x400 relay team of junior Noah Woodman (Hampstead, N.H.), senior Jordan Torney (Toms River, N.J.), junior Markus Bagley (Jersey City, N.J.) and junior Wellington Ventura (Cresskill, N.J.) took fourth and did so with the fastest time this season for the Huskies at 3:09.46.
- Junior Joseph O'Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.) ran for the first time this outdoor season and competed in the 400 meters, clocking in at 49.15 seconds.
- Junior Josiah Thompson (Jamacia, N.Y.) was 21st in the 100 meter dash at 10.99 seconds.
- Senior Aaron Hackett (Upper Marlboro, Md.) was the Huskies top-finisher in the 200 meters, clocking in at 21.82 seconds.Â
In the field…
- Junior Travis Snyder (Saco, Maine) matched his best height of the outdoor season on Saturday, clearing 5.11 meters to finish sixth in the field. Classmate Tyler Hrbek (Northvale, N.J.) recorded his best height this spring at 4.96 meters to finish eighth.
- Senior Daniel Claxton (Nesconset, N.Y.) had his best outing of the outdoor season, clearing the bar at 2.06 meters in the high jump to place fourth overall.
- Freshman Kasey Savage (Orlando, Fla.) posted a new PR in the triple jump to finish sixth with a leap of 14.33 meters.
- Senior Chris Keegan (West Hartford, Conn.) placed sixth in the hammer with a toss of 56.74 meters.
- Sophomore Tanner Jameson (Durham, Conn.) was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 63.22 meters and classmate Joseph Venables (Durham, Conn.) was sixth in 56.20 meters.

- Freshman Donovan Wright (Burlington, N.J.) finished ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 52.35 seconds.
In the field…
- Sophomore Kevin Cetin (Massapequa, N.Y.) was second in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.76 meters. He came back in the discus throw to finish fifth with a throw of 41.53 meters.
- Sophomore Tyler Lyon (Albuquerque, N.M.) took third in the discus with a heave of 44.80 meters and was fifth in the shot put at 14.23 meters.
- Freshman Dante Bailey (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) was second in the high jump with a height of 1.90 meters
