Boston, Mass. – The University of Connecticut women's hockey team fell to Northeastern in the final game of the regular season Saturday afternoon.
The first period was all Northeastern as they would instantly jump on the attack and pressure the UConn defense. Northeastern would get on the board first four minutes into the game to take the 1-0 lead. Using the momentum gained from senior day and the first goal, Northeastern wouldn't look back, scoring two more goals in the period to head into the locker room up by three.
UConn would look to cut into the Northeastern lead in the second period, but the Northeastern defense would stand strong. UConn's best chance of the period came when graduate student Morgan Wabick would fire a shot that would ring off both posts before bouncing out. A UConn penalty would give Northeastern the player advantage. While on the power play, Northeastern would net another goal giving them a four-goal lead heading into the third.
Both defenses would step up and prevent any scoring chances throughout the third. Northeastern however would find a weak spot in the UConn defense late in the third period and score to increase their lead once again. With the loss, UConn will finish the regular season with an overall record of 22-8-4 and a record of 16-7-4 in Hockey East action. Following the wrap up of all Hockey East action on Saturday, playoff seeding will be determined. As of now UConn sits in third place in Hockey East and would host the University of Maine in the Quarterfinal game.
