WASHINGTON D.C – The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team swept the University of Georgetown in three sets for the sixth straight victory. Huskies were led by Allie Garland, and Jasmine Davis who both finished with 13 kills.
UConn and Georgetown would start the game trading blows as neither team was able to gain a lead early in the set. Georgetown would eventually jump out to a 15-12 lead forcing UConn to take a timeout. UConn would use the timeout and regroup as they would counter with a run of their own forcing Georgetown to call a timeout with UConn only trailing by two. The two teams would continue to go back and forth until UConn would eventually take the 24-23 lead off a kill from Allie Garland, and close set one with a kill from Kennadie Jake-Turner. Allie Garland would finish set one with seven kills, while Kennadie Jake-Turner would finish with five.
Set two would start off very similar to set one, with both teams trading points, not allowing one another to gain momentum. UConn would eventually begin to pull away as they would jump to a 16-13 lead forcing Georgetown to call the timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Hoyas would respond, eventually tying the game at 16 and taking the 17-16 lead. UConn would not back down as they would counter the Georgetown run, with a run of their own retaking the lead and forcing the Hoyas to call a timeout trailing 22-18. UConn would go on to take set two by a final of 25-19.
With two set victories under their belt the Huskies looked to take set three and take the match from the Hoyas. Georgetown would not go away without a fight as they would once again prevent UConn from taking an early lead. UConn would eventually breakthrough and take a four-point lead forcing Georgetown to call a timeout. Following the timeout, UConn would continue attacking and building their lead eventually taking a 17-10 lead late in the third set. The Huskies would not let up as Jasmine Davis, Kennadie Jake-Turner and Allie Garland looked to close out the game. UConn would eventually take the third set by a final of 25-16 and take the match for their sixth straight victory.
