Huskies Fall in Five to Buffalo

STORRS, Conn. – Senior Kennadie Jake-Turner posted 11 kills, six aces and six blocks as the UConn volleyball team fell in a tough-fought five set match (22-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 17-19) in the Syracuse Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Senior Caylee Parker finished with a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Juniors Allie Garland and Jasmine Davis led the Huskies offense with 14 kills each.
Junior Karly Berkland led the match with 20 digs.
The Huskies served 13 aces against the Bulls, led by a career-high six from Jake-Turner.
After a close first set, UConn used seven aces in the second to win by 10 points.
The teams were closely matched again in the third before the Huskies pulled ahead in the middle of the set. But the Bulls were able to come back and tie, 22-22, before scoring three of the next four points to take the set.
UConn fought back from down 2-1 in the match to tie with a fourth set win. The Huskies used a 7-1 run to take a 10-6 lead and closed the game on a 5-0 run to push the match to five.
The teams were again evenly matched in the fifth set as there were 10 ties. Jake-Turner had an ace, block and two kills late in the set, but Buffalo was able to pull out the win in extra points.
The Huskies are back in action next weekend for the UConn Challenge. The team will host Lafeyette, CCSU and Rutgers on Friday and Saturday.
