No. 6 UConn Falls to No. 3 Louisville in NCAA Quarterfinals

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The sixth-ranked UConn field hockey team narrowly fell to third-ranked and third-seeded Louisville, 1-0, in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals on Sunday at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex.
The Huskies finished the 2020-21 season with a 12-2 overall record and the BIG EAST regular season and conference titles.
The teams were evenly matched in the game, tying 9-9 in shots and 7-7 in penalty corners.
Louisville scored the only goal of the game at 11:39 in the first quarter on a penalty corner.
The Huskies had three corner opportunities in the second quarter, but Louisville keeper Sam Minrath made three saves in the period.
Redshirt junior Cheyenne Sprecher made two of her three saves in the game in the third quarter to keep the Cardinals from adding to the score.
UConn had three corners in the fourth quarter, but were unable to equalize the score.
Sophomore Claire Jandewerth led the Huskies with three shots while senior Kourtney Kennedy and sophomore Sophie Hamilton each had two.
