RUTHERFORD INTERCOLLEGIATE RESULTS
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – UConn freshman Caleb Manuel continued his streak of sterling golf with three straight rounds of par or better and a career-best tie for fourth place finish to lead the Huskies at the Rutherford Intercollegiate, which ended Sunday at the par 71 Penn State Blue Course.
Manuel (Topsham, Me.), who now has two consecutive Top Five finishes after he tied for fifth last week at the Mountaineer Invitational, had an impressive 3-under, 69-70-71=210 at the Rutherford. The 210 is the lowest tourney total of Manuel's career and the 69 ties his lowest round. The result upped his par-or-better total to 10, and gave him his second Top 10 and fifth Top 20 finish of the season.
Manuel led UConn to a sixth-place finish in the 14-team field. Playing their final regular-season event of the 2021 spring season, the Huskies fired a 13-over, 288-290-287=865. Host school Penn State won the team championship with an even-par 852.
Also for UConn, junior Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) notched his third Top 20 finish of the season with a 4-over, 74-71-72=217 to finish in a tie for 16th place in the 75-player field. Nelson, whose round included his sixth round of par or better, led the tournament in Par 3 scoring at 2 under par.
Freshman Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.) had a career-low tourney total of 218, and a career-low round of 68, as he shot a 5-over, 68-76-74=218 to tie for 22nd place.
Freshman Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) shot a 15-over, 77-81-70=228, to finish in a tie for 59th place, and add his third round of par or better. Senior Rodrigo Sanchez (Santo Domingto, D.R.), who had one of eight eagles shot at the tournament, finished 65th with a 19-over, 79-73-80=232. Sophomore Logan Broyles (Mendon, Vt.), playing as an individual, shot a 20-over, 81-72-80=233, to finish in 66th place.
UConn will next compete in the BIG EAST Conference Championship, set for April 26-28 at the Streamsong Resort in Bowling Green, Fla.
