Softball Falls at Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – The UConn softball team dropped its final game of the Lone Star State Invitational, falling at Texas, 16-2, Sunday afternoon at Red & Charline McCombs Field. The Huskies fall to 5-5 on the year, while Texas improves to 7-0.
Emily Piergustavo and Jana Sanden picked up the pair of hits for the Huskies with Hollis Wivell and Lauren Benson producing the two UConn runs. Reese Guevarra also contributed to the stat sheet, recording the team's lone RBI.
UConn found themselves facing an early 3-0 deficit but pulled within one after picking up a pair of runs in the top of the second. Sanden's double to left center kicked off the inning for UConn. Wivell was walked, Benson reached on a fielder's choice moving Wivell up to second, and then Piergustavo followed with single to third that loaded the bases. Guevarra got walked on her next plate appearance and Hollis scored to get the Huskies on the board. Benson scored on a wild pitch shortly after to pull UConn within 3-2.
Texas grabbed control of the game in the bottom of the frame, however, and put seven runs on the board to increase their advantage to eight. The Longhorns followed that explosion with a trio of runs in the third and fourth innings to nail down the result.
