UConn Golfers Bow To West Virginia

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The UConn men's golf team warmed up for the spring portion of its 2019-20 schedule with a rare head-to-head match against West Virginia, meeting the Mountaineers at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Fla.
The match consisted of one round of stroke play, with each team counting its best four scores out of six players in action. West Virginia shot an aggregate 7-over par 295 to top UConn's17-over 305 on the Par 72 Nicklaus Course.
The Huskies were led by sophomore Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.), who shot a 1-over 73, finishing in a tie for second place, two strokes behind match medalist Matthew Sharpstene (1-under 71) of West Virginia.
Also for UConn, junior Finn Boynton (Milford, Conn.) shot a 4-over 76 to finish fifth, and redshirt senior Drake Hull (Rutland, Vt.) and junior Rodrigo Sanchez (Santo Domingo, D.R.) finished in a tie for sixth, each with a 6-over 78.
Junior Jack Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) shot a 7-over 79 to tie for ninth place and redshirt junior Chandler Morris (Hobe Sound, Fla.) finished 12th with an 18-over 90.
The Huskies will return to action on Feb. 22-24, when they compete in the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
That will be the first of five tournament events in which UConn will compete in the spring, including the Huskies' own UConn Intercollegiate on April 9-11 at Ellington Ridge Country Club. The five events lead up to the American Athletic Conference Championship, set for April 26-28 at the Innisbrook Resort Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, Fla.
