STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team will open up the spring schedule on Sunday with a pair of dual matches taking place at Army West Point. The Huskies will kick-off a spring slate that will feature 20 dual matches as they work their way toward the 2020 American Athletic Conference Championship tournament in April.
The Huskies split their two dual matches during the fall season, losing to Sacred Heart and beating Holy Cross, both on their home courts in Storrs. UConn will start the spring season as they take on St. John's and the host Black Knights on Sunday at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center in West Point. The Huskies will face AAC members Temple, Memphis and ECU this spring as they gear up to compete for the final time in the AAC Championships.
UConn will be led by juniors Yili Zheng (Shanghai, China) and John MIchael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) who had strong fall campaigns. Zheng was tied with freshman Rami Scheetz (Cedar Rapids, Ia.) who each posted six singles victories. Holtmann was right on their heels picking up five singles wins this fall.
Holtman was the Huskies leader in doubles play, picking up nine wins and teamed with sophomore Christian Provenzano (Montclair, N.J.) to post a team-best 6-2 record together. Scheetz was second on the club, putting up eight doubles victories during the fall and when playing with Zheng, the two posted a 4-1 mark. SeniorÂ
