Caylee Parker Paces Huskies Past Iona

STORRS, Conn. – UConn sophomore Caylee Parker (Windsor, Ontario) posted her first double double of the season with a match-high 18 kills and 14 digs to lead the Huskies to a 3-0 win over Iona in the opening match of the 2019 UConn Challenge in Gampel Pavilion Thursday night.
The Huskies also posted their first 3-0 sweep of the season, improving to 2-2 thanks to a 25-23, 25-16 and 25-22 take down of the Gaels.
The three-day tournament continues on Friday starting with Boston College and Central Connecticut facing-off at 11 am. CCSU and Iona will play at 4 pm followed by the Huskies in the nightcap, taking on BC at 7 pm.
The Huskies finished Thursday night's match hitting .351 (53-14-111) over the three-sets with r-sophomore setter Courtney Morris (North Royalton, Ohio) pacing the offense with 39 assists while also coming up with six kills in 11 attempts. She also chipped in with 12 digs.
Parker finished the match hitting .424, 18 kills on 33 attempts with just three errors. Husky freshman Jasmine Davis (Redondo Beach, Calif.) joined Parker in the double digit kill column, posting 10 on the night while hitting .304 (10-3-23). Fellow rookie Allie Garland (League City, Texas) made her presence felt in the middle, coming up with six kills in seven attempts (.714) and had three blocks in the win.
