GREENVILLE, N.C. – The UConn women's tennis team headed down to ECU for a pair of American Athletic Conference match-ups this weekend in their last tune-up before next week's conference championships. On Saturday, the Huskies dropped a 5-2 decision to the Pirates.
ECU opened by sweeping the doubles point to take the early lead into singles play. The Huskies picked-up a pair of singles victories from junior Cassie Chung (Vancouver, British Columbia) and freshman Luciana Rabines (Barcelona, Spain).
Chung won at No. 4, beating Martina Paladini-Jennings in straight-sets, 6-3 and 6-2 for her 13th victory on the season. At No. 6, Rabines posted a three-set win, battling back from dropping the first set to win in a tie-breaker. Annija Veinsteina won the opening set 7-6 (6) but Rabines answered with a 7-5 then 10-7 victory in the third, her 10th win on the year.
The Huskies close out the regular season on Sunday taking on the Cincinnati Bearcats down at ECU.
