Huskies Fall at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – The UConn men's tennis team saw their first action back in the state of Connecticut taking on state rival Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon on the road. The Bobcats posted a 5-2 win over the Huskies on their home court as they fall to 7-13 overall.
"Our guys played hard today and put themselves in winning situations," stated associate head coach Reinaldo Valor. "We had 4 matches in third sets but were only able to win one of them. QU was the better team today they played a great match."
The Bobcats took the opening doubles point but the Huskies' No. 1 team of senior Hank Hill (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Yili Zheng (Shanghai, China) picked-up their team-leading 19th win on the season together. The duo took care of Austin Yannone and Aleska Martinovic, 6-4.
In singles action, the Huskies grabbed wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Senior Jack McLister (Leesburg, Va.) won at No. 3 over Alester Magalit in three sets. McLister dropped the first set 6-3 but stormed back to win 6-3 and 6-4, his 14th win on the season.
At No.2, John Michael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) won over Martinovic, 6-3 and 7-5, his team-best 18th win on the season.
The Huskies will wrap up their dual match schedule in one week when they host Marist on campus in their final tune-up before the AAC Championship tournament.
