No. 4 Huskies Travel to Vanderbilt Wednesday

STORRS, Conn. – The No. 4 UConn women's basketball team (1-0) plays its first road game of the season at Vanderbilt (2-0) Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gym. The game will be broadcast on the SEC Network and the UConn IMG Radio Network.
The Huskies opened the season with a 72-61 win over Cal last Sunday. Sophomore Christyn Williams led the team with 24 points while junior Megan Walker (21 pts, 10 rebs) and sophomore Olivia Nelson-Ododa (11 pts, 13 rebs) each had double-doubles.
UConn is 5-2 all-time vs. Vanderbilt. Last season, Crystal Dangerfield scored 19 points to lead the Huskies to an 80-42 win over the Commodores. This is UConn's first trip to Vanderbilt since March 21, 1992.
UConn's game at Vanderbilt will be Dangerfield's homecoming game. She is from Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Assistant coach Jasmine Lister was a four-year starter at Vanderbilt and is a 2014 alumna of the university.
Dangerfield, Walker and Williams are UConn's returning starters. Along with Nelson-Ododa, the four were named to award watch lists for their positions: Dangerfield to the Nancy Lieberman Award (top point guard); Walker to the Cheryl Miller Award (top small forward); Williams to Ann Meyers Drysdale (top shooting guard); and Nelson-Ododa to Lisa Leslie Award (top center).
Dangerfield, Walker and Williams were named to the Women's Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List. Dangerfield and Williams were tabbed to the John R. Wooden Award Watch List.
Dangerfield was named the American Athletic Conference Co-Preseason Player of the Year and was unanimously selected to the preseason all-conference first team. Walker was also named to the first team while Williams was tabbed to the second team.
The Huskies feature four newcomers this season: freshmen Aubrey Griffin and Anna Makurat and transfers Evelyn Adebayo and Evina Westbrook.
