STORRS, Conn.—The women's track and field team will head down south to Nashville, Tenn. to compete in the two-day Vanderbilt Invitational. The meet will begin on Friday, Jan. 18th and end on Saturday, Jan. 19th.
Last season over 700 student-athletes from 22 different universities traveled to compete in the Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt. The field events kicked off the meet, followed by the track events later in the evening. Saturday opened with 'unseeded' running events followed by preliminary rounds and later the finals of those events. The field events started around midday.
UConn had five top-10 finishes on Day One at the Vanderbilt Invitational last year, with two coming via the 5000m race. Brianna O'Brien and Haley Hasty finished third—17:02.80 and seventh—17:26.96 respectively. Amaris Blount placed tenth overall in the 20lb. Weight Throw, hurling it a distance of 18.25m. The distance medley relay team's time put UConn across the finish line with a top-5 finish.
Day Two was headlined by Divine Oladipo and Mia Nahom, both posted top-10 finishes for the Huskies. Oladipo's Shot Put distance of 15.47m etched her in sixth place while Nahom's 3000m time of 9:45.44 was fast enough for eighth.
UConn is coming off of a great start to the indoor season as they nabbed several first-place finishes at the Nittany Lion Challenge in addition to 10 personal records. Susan Aneno, Oladipo, and Blount were the three who claimed victory in their respective events for the Huskies.
