Huskies Split Day One at WVU Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The UConn women's volleyball team got their 2018 season underway on Friday at the WVU Invitational earning a split of their first two matches of the season. The Huskies will close out this weekend's season opening tournament against Georgia Southern on Saturday.
In their opening match of the season, the Huskies battled back from down two sets to one to pull out a 3-2 victory over Wright State. After splitting the first two sets, Wright State clinched the third set after running off the final three points tied at 22-22 to take a 2-1 lead. In the fourth set, the Huskies went up 8-2 early and never looked back on the way to a 25-19 win to even the match
In the deciding fifth set, the Huskies sprinted out to a 7-1 lead and closed out the win on a r-senior Danielle Cabel (Bettendorf, Iowa) kill, 15-11. Cabel led the way for the Huskies with a career-high 17 kills in her first match back after missing all but five matches last season with an injury.
Senior Iman McGary (Rockford, Ill.) just missed a double double, finishing with 15 kills and nine digs. Defensively, senior Elizabeth Kline (Glenshaw, Pa.) led the way with 24 digs.Â
Senior Emma Turner (Winter Park, Fla.) finished with six kills in 11 attempts with no errors (.545), passed out 55 assists and had 15 digs and a service ace.
In the nightcap match, UConn was clipped 3-0 by the host West Virginia Mountaineers, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-21. Freshman Caylee Parker (Windsor, Ontario) led the Huskies with 13 kills, her first career double-digit kill effort. Kline was the lone Husky with double-digit digs posting 18 in the loss.Â
