TULSA, Okla. - Four different players recorded hits and sophomore pitcher Katie Koshes logged a complete-game effort, as the UConn softball team dropped the series-opener to Tulsa on Friday evening - 3-0 - at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
The Huskies (19-33, 4-15 American) fell short to the reigning American Athletic Conference champion Golden Hurricane (29-22, 9-10 American), as Tulsa starter Emily Watson struck-out 11 batters in the winning effort.
Koshes (4-9) posted a solid effort for UConn in the circle, allowing just two earned runs (three total) on six hits while striking out four. She left six runners on base for Tulsa, including a pair in both the first and second frames.
Freshmen Briana Marcelino and Reese Guevarra each had singles for the Huskies, while sophomores Chloe Kerns and Devon Casazza chipped in back-to-back hits in the fifth inning off Watson.
Tulsa scored one run in three of the first four innings off Koshes, taking a 3-0 lead. A pair of sacrifice flies and an RBI single put the Golden Hurricane ahead, while Watson (19-11) took care of the three-run advantage.

UConn left four runners on base throughout the contest, including two in the fifth after infield singles by Kerns and Casazza to lead-off the inning. The final three batters were retired in order, stranding a runner in scoring position for the Huskies.
The Huskies' lone error of the game came in the second inning, when senior Ryne Nakama bobbled a groundball at second base. Following the error, Tulsa added a run on an RBI hit from Morgan Neal - an unearned run charged to Koshes.
Friday was the first game action for UConn since Senior Day last Sunday against Houston at Burrill Family Field. With final exams complete, it is full-speed ahead for the Huskies, as they continue their weekend series at Tulsa on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
