Huskies Fall to Houston at AAC Championship Tournament

DALLAS, Texas -- The UConn Huskies saw their season come to an end in the first round of the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championship, falling to Houston 4-0 at Turpin Stadium on the campus of SMU on Wednesday. The Huskies end the year at 10-11 overall in dual matches.
The Huskies, seeded No. 11 in the tournament, dropped the opening doubles point to the Cougars, seeded No. 6 in the field. At No. 2, Lauren Alter and Allison Mills posted a 6-1 win over the senior tandem of Summer Walker (Conyers, Ga.) and Zaina Zaki (West Chester, Pa.).
The Cougars clinched the point at No. 3 with Ana Glumac and Constandena Nicolaou beating UConn's junior team of Jacqueline Lazaro (Largo, Fla.) and Gillian Perrotta (Scarsdale, N.Y.), 6-3.
In singles, Houston won at No. 3, 5 and 6 to move on in the tournament. Alter bested Walker at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-2. Nicolaou was a winner at No. 5 over Zaki, winning 6-2 and 6-0. Ana Glumac clinched the match at No. 6, beating sophomore Cassie Chung (Vancouver, British Columbia), 6-1 and 6-2.
