BRIGHTON, Mass. - Senior Ryne Nakama and sophomore Carli Cutler each recorded a hit on Wednesday, but an error and lack of timely hitting led to the UConn softball team being outdueled by Boston College in midweek action, 4-1, at the Brighton Complex.
Junior pitcher Jill Stockley (6-12) picked up the loss for the Huskies (15-25), despite allowing just two earned runs (four total) in 5.2 innings of work against the Eagles (21-15). It is UConn's first loss to Boston College since the 2015 season.
Freshman infielder Briana Marcelino recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, accounting for the Huskies' lone run of the day. Nakama scored on the play, after smacking a lead-off double against Eagles' starting pitcher Jessica Dreswick.
The Huskies, while holding Boston College to just 1-for-9 (.111) hitting with runners in scoring position, were 0-for-11 with runners on base against the Eagles - leaving six runners on base throughout the game.
Trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning, it was a two-out error by freshman Reese Guevarra in center field that scored two runs for the Eagles - extending the deficit to 3-0. UConn scored in the fifth to chip away at the lead, but could not close the gap any further.
The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by Emme Martinez, but Stockley rebounded with a pair of scoreless frames following the first. She helped strand nine runners on base in her outing, including the bases loaded in the second.
UConn's best opportunities came in the first and third innings, with runners on first and second base, but the Huskies could not bring home any runs. Dreswick (13-8) struck-out 10 and allowed one run on two hits in her complete-game effort.

Freshman pitcher Marybeth Olson made a relief appearance in the sixth with runners on first and second with two outs, retiring the only batter she faced to keep Boston College's lead at three.
For Marcelino, it was her sixth RBI of the season, while Cutler's single in the seventh extended her on-base streak to four games. It was the second double of the year for Nakama.
The Huskies return to action this weekend when they host ECU in a three-game set at Burrill Family Field in American Athletic Conference action. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 4 p.m.
