Football Makes Final Road Trip

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Huskies head out on their final road trip of the season to face the ECU Pirates on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. on CBSSN. This is the fourth straight night game on the road for the Huskies and the fifth this season for UConn. You can also find the game on 97-9 ESPN Hartford or on the Tunein app.
The Series vs. ECU
Saturday's game is the fifth meeting between UConn and East Carolina and the series is 3-1 in favor of the Pirates.
Last season, the Huskies lost at home 41-38 as Michael Tarbutt missed a game-tying 33 yard field goal to end the game. Kevin Mensah rushed for 107 yards while Mason Donaldson had a career-day with 108 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
The Huskies lost 41-3 in their last trip to Greenville, N.C. Â in 2016. Noel Thomas was the lone bright spot for the Huskies. Hauling in seven receptions for 135 yards notching his sixth-straight 100-yard receiving game of the season.
UConn defeated ECU by a 31-13 score on October 30, 2015 at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. UConn tailback Arkeel Newsome rushed for 179 yards and had 244 all-purpose yards in the win, including a 90-yard TD run late in fourth quarter to give the Huskies control of the game with a 24-6 lead.
UConn QB Bryant Shirreffs passed for 184 yards on 12 completions in the game while Noel Thomas had five receptions for 55 yards. Â
On October 23, 2014, East Carolina, ranked No. 18 in the country at the time, defeated UConn by a 31-21 score in Greenville. Whitmer threw for 303 yards with two TDs. in the game while WR Deshon Foxx had four receptions for 120 yards and a TD.Â
ECU scored the first two touchdowns of the game, but the Huskies made it 14-7 at the half – scoring with 1:53 left in the quarter on a Whitmer one-yard rush. The game was tied at 21-21 after three quarters as Thomas scored a TD on a 32-yard pass from Whitmer and Foxx scored on a 88-yard pass from Whitmer. The Pirates hit a 31-yard field goal with 6:15 to go in the game and sealed the win with a TD with 1:25 to play.
TOP RUNNING QB IN AMERICA
UConn senior quarterback David Pindell leads all QB's in FBS with 1115 yards rushing this season. Pindell is ninth overall among all rushers.
Pindell has recorded a 100-yard rushing game on six occasions this season. He is the first UConn quarterback in the FBS era to notch multiple 100-yard rushing games in the same season and has smashed the UConn single-season record for rushing yards in a season by a QB. (Pete Petrillo, 676 yards, 1967).
Pindell also ranks T21st in the country with 150 points responsible for. Pindell has rushed for 10 touchdowns and passed for 15 this season.
TRADING IN A GOLD HELMET
For the second time this season, UConn QB David Pindell was recognized with the New England Football Writers Association Gold Helmet Awards presented by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation.
The Gold Helmet Awards are presented each Wednesday afternoon at the weekly New England Football Writers Association Media Luncheons that take place at Harvard University
Pindell earned the honors have accounting for six UConn touchdowns on Saturday against SMU. The Huskies QB passed for four TD's and rushed for two. It is the second time this season that Pindell has been responsible for six TD's in a game (URI). The senior rushed for 178 yards on the ground and passed for 215.
HANGING HALF A HUNDRED
The UConn football team scored 50 points last Saturday against SMU. It was the 30th time in program history that the Huskies had reached 50 in a game and was the first time since 2010 (Texas Southern, 62) that UConn had accomplished the feat.Â
