Huskies Part Of Eight-Team Field
November 15, 2018
The UConn men's basketball team will be a participant in the 2019 Charleston Classic, a November in-season tournament that will be held on Nov. 21, 22, and 24 at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C., the home of the College of Charleston Cougars.
The remainder of the 2019 field in the eight-team tournament includes Xavier, Florida, Miami (Fla.), Missouri State, Penn State, Saint Joseph's and Towson. It will be the 12th year of the event, but the first time UConn has participated.
The Huskies own a combined 27-11 record against the other seven teams in the field --- including a 16-8 mark against Miami, mostly occurring while the two were members of the Big East Conference. UConn is also 5-2 against Saint Joseph's, 3-1 against Florida, 2-0 against Towson, and 1-0 against Xavier. The Huskies have never met Penn State, nor Missouri State.
Four of the eight teams in the 2019 field made the postseason in 2018. Xavier (No. 1 seed), Miami, Fla. (No. 6 seed) and Florida (No. 6 seed) all made the NCAA Tournament. Penn State played in the National Invitational Tournament.
Temple won the 2017 Charleston Classic. Previous winners include Villanova (2016), Virginia (2015) and Miami (Fla.) in 2014.
This family-friendly tournament offers the teams a week of practice, play and experiences in and around historic Charleston.
