Volleyball Edged at Houston, 3-0

HOUSTON, Texas. - The UConn volleyball team fell in straight sets, 3-0, at Houston in American action on Friday evening. The Huskies (8-7) now own a 1-2 mark in conference action, while the Cougars (5-6) improve to 2-1 in the AAC.
Redshirt-freshman Kayla Williams paced the offensive with her seventh double-double of the season after boasting a season-high 18 kills and 10 digs. Junior Emma Turner turned in her first double-double of the season with 33 assists and 10 digs. Junior Kennedy Arundel paced the team with 14 digs, as the Huskies produced three players with double-digit digs. Defensively, redshirt-freshman Genna Florig tallied four total blocks in the outing.
Set One
Williams recorded 10 of her 18 kills in the first set, as the outside hitter accounted for 10 of the team's 16 kill total kills in the set. The Huskies and Cougars exchanged the lead five different times but a late run by the home team would secure Houston's 25-22 victory.
Set Two
Offensively, the Cougars held the edge in the second set, producing a .156 hitting percentage to the Huskies .083, while serving three aces. UConn saw a similar 25-22 defeat, despite Williams' set-high five digs and four kills.
Set Three
Williams and Florig combined for half of the team's 16 kills in the final set. Additionally, Florig picked up two solo blocks in the set, while Arundel notched six digs for the squad. UConn strung together a late 7-0 run but it wasn't enough as Houston's Megan Duncan's six kills paced the team to a final 25-22 victory to conclude the sweep.
The Huskies will conclude their road trip on Sunday, Oct. 1 at conference foe Tulane. The match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
