Huskies Wrap Up Weekend at Brown Invite

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The women's track and field team completed its final tune up for The American Championships (May 12-14) by competing in the Brown Invitational on Sunday afternoon. For full results of the Invitational CLICK HERE.
Sophomore Nicole Kelly (Billerica, Mass.) won the pole vault with a 3.66-meter vault. Her teammate, Laurel Bailey, recorded a runner-up finish on a 3.50-meter vault.
Theresa Swanke (Hartford, Conn.) captured first place in the javelin event with a throw of 36.36 meters.
In the 400-meter race, Kristina Cherrington (Hempstead, N.Y.) notched a victory by the slimmest of margins. Cherrington ran in 58.02 to win by .01 over the runner-up finisher.
In both the 200 and 800-meter races, the Huskies placed three competitors inside the top eight. Cherrington (26.38, fifth), Alexis Gwynn (26.89, seventh) and Zayna Milligan-Gardner (27.05, eighth) ran in the 200-meter event.
In the 800, Emily Howard (2:16.31, third), Danielle Jordan (2:16.72, fourth) and Julia Sprout (2:18.67, eighth) rounded out the UConn field.
The Huskies had four competitor complete the mile run with junior Liz Lagoy (West Hertford, Conn.) recording a runner-up finish running in 4:58.62. Danielle Jordan placed fifth (5:07.94), Talia Staiger, 11th (5:19:06), and Mackenzie Pias, 15th (5:31.43).
UConn will now prepare for The American Championships, beginning on Friday, May 12.
