UConn Relay Teams Excel at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The UConn men's track and field team concluded a solid weekend performance at the Pepsi Florida Relays, hosted by the University of Florida at Percy Beard Track in Gainesville, Fla.

Sophomore Christopher Heydrick had another great performance in the 1500m. After recording a new personal best last weekend at the Penn Challenge, Heydrick was just seventh hundredths of a second off that mark this past weekend in Florida (3:54.36).
In the 5000m, freshman Eric Van Der Els set a new personal record time of 14:47.51to finish 17th in a field of over 50 competitors.
Junior Stephon Henry finished solid in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.41. Senior Wyatt Million recorded 9:28.83 in the 3000m steeple chase, which put him in the top-20. Sophomore Kyle Barber competed in the steeple for the first time this season and finished with a time of 9:35.87.
UConn excelled in the relays. The Huskies' distance medley team (Chavez, Amonu, Timmerman and Trocki) placed fourth with a team-best time of 10:07.95. The 4x800m crew (Garmon, Heydrick, Barber and Chavez) finished eighth with another season-best mark for the Huskies (7:36.70).
Connecticut's 4x100m relay team (Landis, Amonu, Cook and Wall) recorded UConn's top-mark of the season, coming in at 41.42, as did the 4x200m team (Cook, Amonu, Linehan and Landis) which came in at 1:24.77.
Freshman Ronel Forde had an outdoor season-best performance in the triple jump, earning a 15.14m mark.
Junior Alex Gagne had a season-high 53.20m mark in the hammer throw. Freshman Cameron Thompson finished just ahead of Gagne in 11th with a 54.56m throw. Junior Seth Zuidema finished in the top-10 in the javelin with a 62.88m toss.
