"Emily looked good and had nice 5k opener, which led to a PR and school record," UConn head coach J.J. Clark said, "This is good start for my fifth-year senior. She had a 40 second personal record and eclipsed the old school record by 10 seconds. Courtney continued progressing with another big personal best of 16.44. We had a lot of good efforts and we will continue to progress from here."
Durgin beat her previous outdoor-best by 40 seconds, running the 5000m in 16:05.44, which is also the best outdoor-time in the 5k in UConn program history. Ackerley also boasted a new personal-best in the 5000m after she recorded a time of 16:44.45
Six Huskies competed in the 1500m at the Florida Relays. Sophomore Kelsey Swanson set a personal record in that event with a time of 4:39.01. Freshman Danielle Jordan also ran a personal best time (4:44.90) in the 1500m.
In the 100m hurdles, junior Ashley Wiggins came in at 14.07, a new personal best for the New Rochelle, N.Y. native.
Both of Connecticut's relay teams earned UConn's top marks of the season. UConn's 4x800m A team (Panisse, Swanson, Over, Christe) stood out from the competition, finishing in third with a time of 8:47.32. The 4x800m B team (Howard, Jordan, Kane and Sprout) finished eighth at 9:03.78. Connecticut's 4x400m relay team (Over, Strackman, Woods and Foley) recorded the team's best mark of the year, finishing in 3:51.79.
Freshman Thalia Ghalam finished in the top-10 in the javelin with a 43.50m throw. Fellow rookie Divine Oladipo was one hundredth of a meter shy of a new personal record in the shot put, reaching the 15.66m mark.
