ORLANDO, Fla. - Junior Kevin Foster boasted the best mark in the country in the javelin on the first day of competition at the UCF Black and Gold challenge on Friday. Foster threw a personal record 72.09m.
"Great start to the outdoor season today," UConn head coach Greg Roy said, "Kevin Foster's throw ranks as one of the top throws in the country and Cameron Thompson had a nice debut winning the hammer. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the team in action tomorrow."
Foster dominated the field of competition to stake claim to the first-place title. He threw over 70m in both of his attempts, which both would set a new top-mark in the nation. The next highest qualifying mark in the country is 69.74m.
Freshman Cameron Thompson made his collegiate debut with a first-place finish in the hammer throw. Thompson led the event with a 58.54m throw, seven meters ahead of the rest of the competition. His mark was in the top-15 in the country.
The rest of the Huskies will close out the competition at the Black and Gold Challenge on Saturday, March 18. Saturday's events will begin at 11 a.m. with the discus.
