UConn Competes in Valentine Invitational

BOSTON - The University of Connecticut women's track and field team put in a good day's work at the Valentine Invitational at the BU Track and Tennis Center Friday. The Huskies concluded all events Friday with the exception of the distance medley relay.

UConn thrived in the 60m dash as freshman Alexis Gwynn set a new personal record (7.81) and senior Taylor Anderson took second-place overall (7.52).
In the 60m hurdles, freshman Tia Strackman earned a personal record time of 8.98 to finish 14th out of 90 competitors. Junior Ashley Wiggins came in just ahead of Strackman at 8.95 to finish 13th.
Three Huskies set new personal records in the 400m. Freshman Kristina Cherrington led the team (57.41), followed by sophomore Toni Brown (57.97) and junior Zayna Milligan-Gardner (59.04).
Freshman Taylor Woods recorded a new personal best in the 200m, finishing with a time of 25:07. She also took sixth place overall in the long jump with an 18'11.25'' (5.77m) leap. Fellow rookie Julia Sprout also claimed a personal record after running the 500m in 1:17.33.
A trio of Huskies finished in the top-15 out of nearly 150 athletes in the 800m run. Sophomore Hannah Parker highlighted the group, coming in second place overall at 2:07.33. Senior Sydnee Over (2:09.85) took seventh-place and junior Katie Foley (2:11.49) came in 14th.
Sophomore Laurel Bailey continued the PR trend as she tied her previous personal best in the pole vault with an 11'11.75'' (3.65m) vault.
The UConn women will conclude the competition tomorrow with the distance medley relay (Akerley, Sprout, Over, Kane), which is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
