UConn Boasts Nine Personal Bests at Nittany Lion Challenge

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The UConn women's track and field team stood out on Saturday with nine personal bests in an outstanding performance at the Nittany Lion Challenge hosted by Penn State.
"The team had a great day in every event area," head coach J.J. Clark said, "The team continued with personal best after personal best this week. Kelsey Swanson had a huge personal best and hit a conference-leading mark and Taylor Anderson also lead the team with a No. 2 ranked conference mark in her first meet of the season. It was exciting to see the sprints, jumps, throws and distance areas perform well."
Sophomore Kelsey Swanson (Tolland, Conn.) posted a conference-leading, personal best mark in the 3000m event with a time of 9:42.85 to finish second in that event.
UConn excelled in the mile run event. Junior Katie Foley (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomores Courtney Akerley (Ashford, Conn.) and Talia Staiger all recorded personal bests in the mile event.
Akerley finished with a PR of 5:05.56 while Foley and Staiger finished within two places of each other with PRs of 5:09.29 and 5:10.56, respectively. Senior Emily Durgin (Standish, Maine) took seventh place in that same event with a 4:56.07 mile time.
Sophomores Hannah Parker (Nottingham, N.H.) and Lindsey Kane (Turnersville, N.J) both set personal records in the 1000m. Parker ran a personal best 2:51.26 to claim fifth place overall in that event, while Kane finished in the top-15 with a career-best time of 2:57.43.
In her inaugural season as a Husky, Alexis Gwynn (Wethersfield, Conn.) set a personal record in the 200m dash, boasting a time of 26.33. Sophomore Kat Surin (St. Jerome, Quebec) took second-place in the 200m with a time of 24.77, which is also one of the top times in the conference.
The Huskies also saw top performances from many of their upperclassmen. Senior Christine Donat (Madison, Conn.) also had a personal best performance in the triple jump event with her mark of 37'9.25'' (11.51m). Fellow senior Taylor Anderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) shined in the 60m dash, recording a top-two conference mark with a time of 7.48.
Freshman Divine Oladipo (London, U.K.) set another personal record this meet after she captured fourth place in the shot put with her mark of 46' 10.75'' (14.29m). Freshman Taylor Woods (Marlboro, Md.) brought home a second-place finish in the long jump, recording an 18' 6.5'' (5.65m) leap.
