STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team opens its 2016-17 regular season with a two-game road series at Union beginning Friday, Sept. 30 at Messa Rink.
UConn, who was picked to finish fourth in the 2016-17 Hockey East preseason coaches' poll, capped off last season with its second straight trip to the WHEA semifinals where they fell to No. 1 Boston College and finished with a 17-15-5 overall record for the 2015-16 season.

1. Theresa Knutson - 28 points (19g, 9a)
2. Justine Fredette - 26 points (8g, 18a)
3. Leah Lum - 23 points (10g, 13a)
Seven newcomers join the 15 returning veterans to round out the Husky squad this season under fourth-year head coach Chris MacKenzie. Senior defenseman Jessica Stott (Niverville, Manitoba) and junior Justine Fredette (Winnipeg, Manitoba) will captain the Huskies for the 2016-17 season.

Union hosted Concordia University (Quebec) in an exhibition match on Sept. 24 where the Dutchwomen suffered a 5-1 loss to the Stingers. After being down 5-0 with less than two minutes to play in the third period, freshman Jordi Naidrich put Union on the board at the very end.

The Dutchwomen welcome a large freshman class of 11 newcomers this season under first-year head coach Josh Sciba, who takes the reins after Union went 0-28-6 in the 2015-16 season.
