Former Husky To Represent Canada in Rio

STORRS, Conn. - Former University of Connecticut track and field standout Phylicia George will make her second Olympic appearance, representing Team Canada at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. She will be competing in the 100m hurdles with the first round set for Tuesday, Aug. 16.
A 2010 graduate from UConn, George made her Olympic debut at the 2012 London games where she finished sixth in the finals for the 100m hurdles.
After sitting out the 2013 season due to injury, George returned to competition in 2014 and worked her way to a second place finish at the 2015 Canadian Championship before earning a fifth place finish at the Pan Am Games in Toronto. She also competed in the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, China.
The Markham, Ont. native currently holds five UConn program records, including 55m hurdles, 60m hurdles, 100m hurdles, 4x100m and 4x200m relays.
Following the first round of competition, the semifinal and final rounds are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 17.
