LECANTO, Fla. --- A consistent performance by junior Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.) earned him a 12th-place finish as the UConn men's golf team wrapped up its 2015-16 season Tuesday in the final round of the American Athletic Conference Championship at the Quarry Course of the Black Diamond Ranch.
Dietrich shot a 1-over 73 on Tuesday, to combine with matching even-par 72s in the first two rounds. His 72-72-73=217 gave him a team-leading 17 rounds of par or better this season and his tie for 12th was his seventh Top 20 finish of 2015-16.
Also for the Huskies, senior Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) finished 22nd with a 6-over 77-64-81=222, while senior Cameron MacKay (Brookfield, Conn.) fired UConn's best third round with a 2-under 70 to lift him into a tie for 23rd place with an 8-over 75-79-70=224.
Rounding out the Huskies' squad was senior John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.), whose 78-83-76=237 finished in 42nd place and freshman Jimmy Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.), who finished in a tie for 43rd place with a 79-82-78=239.
As a team, the Huskies' aggregate 302-297-297=896 finished seventh in the nine-team field. USF shot a 19-under 285-282-278=845 to capture its second straight league championship. The individual medalist was USF's Aksel Olsen, who carded a 7-under 70-70-69=209.
