Women's Track Concludes Weekend at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - A week before hosting its lone home meet of the 2016 outdoor season, the UConn women's track and field team competed at the two-day Sam Howell Invitational, hosted by Princeton, on April 8-9 at Weaver Stadium.
Senior Megan Chapman followed up a stellar weekend at the Pepsi Relays with a career-best, gold-medal performance in the discus throw (47.96m) and also set a personal-best in the hammer throw, taking third with a toss of 47.26m. In the discus, Samantha Mazur (38.25m) took seventh, while Mazur (46.32m) and Kelly Myers (34.96m) finished fourth and eighth, respectively, in the hammer.
On Saturday, Taylor Anderson won the 100m dash with a 12.41 second finish, while Paris Taft (55.94) collected a win in the 200m dash. In the same event, Katie Foley (58.18), Kat Vodopia (58.91) and Deysha Smith-Jenkins (59.12) all grabbed top-10 results.
In Saturday's 800m dash, freshman posted a 2:22.31 silver-medal mark, checking in ahead of Kelsey Swanson, who finished in 2:26.79. Hannah Fleming shined in the 1,500m run, clocking in at 4:58.44 on her way to a third-place finish, while two Huskies Saija Bikanova (1.65m) and Emi Kanyo (1.50m) nabbed top-five finishes in the high jump.
On Saturday, Gabriella Attanasio posted a career-best in the pole vault, taking third with a leap of 3.55m, while Nicole Kelly (3.35m) and Laurel Bailey (3.35m) notched season-bests in the event. Sarah Bowens took the top spot in the long jump (5.98m), while fellow seniors Odrine Belot (12.52m) and Melodee Riley (11.99) finished 1-2 in the triple jump.
Kelly Myers delivered an excellent result in the shot put, winning the event on Saturday with a toss of 13.72m, while teammate Bikanova (11.93m) and Swanke (10.41m) each finished in the top-10.
Lauren Scahill was the team's top finisher in the 800m run on Friday, checking in in 24th with a time of 2:19.53 seconds, while Alexis Panisse registered a top-10 performance in the 1,500m run invitational, clocking in at a season-best 4:36.87.
Freshman Ericka Randazzo made her season debut in the 5,000m run taking 14th overall with a time of 17:28.30 seconds, while Mary Monda Oewel earned a bronne medal in the 10,000m run (35:30.17).
In the javelin throw, sophomore Theresa Swanke secured seventh overall with a mark of 30.95m, while Mazur notched her third top-10 finish with a 22.96m throw.
