PHILADELPHIA - Competing in its final weekend of competition before the 2016 outdoor American Athletic Conference championship, the UConn women's track and team got off to a hot start at the 122nd annual Penn Relays in the first two days of the historic three-day event.

Despite the colder than average temperatures, Connecticut saw several terrific performances on Thursday as a crowd of 20,596 watched the hosts put on a show in the friendly confines of Franklin Field.
Connecticut's 4x200m relay team (Joseph, Bowens, Anderson, Taft) got off to a strong start of Friday, taking fifth in the prelims and earning a spot in Saturday's final.
The team's sprint medley team (Anderson, Joseph, Taft, Parker) collected a fourth-place finish on Friday night, crossing the line in 3:53.52 seconds. UConn's DMR squad (Williamson, Taft, Zimmer, Panisse) placed fifth in the event on Thursday with a time of 11:30.92 seconds.
Liz Lagoy turned in a career-best 9:55.27 second performance in the 3,000m run, collecting 11th overall. Courtney Akerley (17:11.84) and Ericka Randazzo (17:18.69) took 34th and 42nd in the 5,000m run, respectively.
Senior standout Emily Durgin returned to action and grabbed a top-10 finish in the 10,000m run run, crossing the finish line in 35:04.44, while Gabriella Attanasio (3.50m) took 12th in the pole vault on Thursday morning.
Sarah Bowens shined in the long jump, collecting third place with a leap of 5.90m, while Odrine Belot (5.56m) nabbed 13th in her event earlier in the afternoon.
Melodee Riley racked up a top-20 finish in the triple jump final, taking 19th with a mark of 11.64m. Senior Kelly Myers registered a 13.23m toss in the shot put on Thursday afternoon, finishing 12th.
In the discus throw, Megan Chapman continued a standout outdoor campaign, nabbing seventh with a toss of 45.65m, while Kelli Thomas (51.03m) took sixth in the hammer throw.
