Huskies Off to Strong Start at 122nd Annual Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - Competing in its final weekend of competition before the 2016 outdoor American Athletic Conference championship, the UConn men's track and team got off to a hot start at the 122nd annual Penn Relays in the first two days of the historic three-day event.

Despite the colder than average temperatures, Connecticut saw several terrific performances on Thursday as a crowd of 20,596 watched the hosts put on a show in the friendly confines of Franklin Field.
Senior standout Amanze Williams stole the show on Saturday morning, notching a new collegiate-best in the triple jump, taking second overall with a leap of 15.45m.
On Saturday, the Huskies' 4x100m relay team (Landis, Amonu, Marriner, Beram) took third in the event in the IC4A Final, turning in a 41.23 second result after running a 41.56 second race in Friday's heat.
UConn's 4xMile team (O'Donnell, Bertoline, Chavez, McGonnigle) picked up a sixth-place finish in the invitational on Saturday afternoon, crossing the line in 16:41.34, topping competition from Penn State, Duke and Clemson.
On Friday, the team's 4x400m relay squad (Beram, Henry, Sykes, Barber) finished 34th overall with a time of 3:17.65 seconds. McGonnigle was the team's top finisher in 5,000m run final and set a new collegiate-best mark, collecting 27th place (14:28.73), checking in ahead of captain Ned Wilson (14:43.67).
Wyatt Million took 15th in the 3,000m steeplechase on Thursday night, finishing in 9:15.16 seconds, which marked a personal-best.
Ian Bergere placed 12th in Friday's pole vault event, registering a leap of 4.55m, while Demario Gray (6.36m) and Josh Marriner (6.24m) took 29th and 33rd, respectively, in the long jump.
Matthew Graziano grabbed a top-10 performance in the discus throw, registering a mark of 50.10m, while Seth Zuidema earned a 12th-place mark in the javelin with a throw of 59.37m.
