Huskies Round Out Weekend Action at Larry Ellis Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. - With the conference championship coming up in less than one month, the UConn women's track and field enjoyed a successful tune-up at the two-day Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton, on April 22-23.
Kat Vopopia was the team's top finisher in Friday's 800m run, collecting 11th overall with a time of 2:07.26 seconds, while Alexis Panisse paced the squad in the 1,500m run, taking ninth overall and setting a new season-best (4:28.85).
Sophomore Alana Peal turned in season-best 17:45.97 second time in the 5,000m run, securing 29th, while sophomore field standout Kelli Thomas placed seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 53.08m.
On Saturday, the Huskies took three of the top six spots in the 1,500m run run, paced by a silver medal performance from senior Terra Briody (4:37.87). In the same event, Lauren Scahill (4:40.00) and Maggie Christe (4:41.29) finished fourth and sixth, respectively.
Senior standout Nyanka Joseph earned a top-10 finish in the 400m dash, taking eighth overall (55.38), while junior sprinter Taylor Anderson nabbed fourth in the 100m dash, crossing the finish line in 11.81 seconds.
Joseph continued a stellar meet with a second-place 24.31 second finish in the 200m dash, checking in just ahead of teammate Paris Taft (24.36), who took third.
On Saturday, freshman Lindsey Kane ran the 800m dash in 2:17.27, taking 16th overall. In the 110m hurdles, Toni-Ann Moore ran a 14.70 second time on her way to a 13th-place finish.
The Huskies' 4x400m relay team (Joseph, Over, Foley, Taft) wrapped up the meet in style, winning the event with a 3:45.38 time.
Megan Chapman continued a strong outdoor season with a second-place 45.58m toss in the discus before teammate Sarah Bowens took a bronze medal in the long jump with a leap of 5.84m. In the triple jump, Odrine Belot took fifth (12.18m), while Bowens placed 12th (11.62m).
Senior Kelly Myers picked up a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 13.85m.
