Huskies Conclude Successful Weekend in New Jersey, Louisiana

PRINCETON, N.J. -- With the conference championship fast-approaching, the UConn men's track and field team wrapped up a successful split-squad weekend after two days at the 2016 Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton, and the 2016 LSU Alumni Gold.
This was a performance weekend and I think we performed well," said head coach Greg Roy. "I'm really happy with the results from the majority of the team. There were quite a few personal bests which is great to see at this time of the year. Overall, it was a successful weekend for our team."
At Princeton, Junior standout Alvaro Chavez was the team's top finisher in Friday's 800m run, checking in in 14th with a season-best time of 1:49.19, while fellow upperclassman Michael O'Donnell paced the team in the 1,500m run, taking 13th with a time of 3:45.09. In the 1,500m run, senior Nick Bertoline registered a new collegiate-best mark, logging a 3:50.92 second finish.
Senior duo Oluwatosin Edwards (59.92m) and Chris Ackell (59.31m) took 11th and 12th, respectively, in the hammer throw, while Kyler Osborne took fifth in the javelin throw with a collegiate-best mark of 59.29m on Friday.
2015 outdoor All-American Craig Hunter placed second in the pole vault on Friday, leaping 5.20m with a tough cross wind. On the track, freshman Kyle Barber notched a personal-best in the 3,000m steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 26th place with a time of 9:20.32
On Saturday in New Jersey, freshman PJ Garmon notched a career-best in the 1,500m run, winning the event with a time of 3:55.07 seconds. Junior Matt Graziano took fifth in the discus throw with a throw of 50.54m.
In Baton Rouge, Trenten Beram picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100m dash finals, running the event in 10.55 seconds, and also secured a third-place finish in the 200m dash, turning in a career-best 21.08 second finish. In the same event, Chinedu Amonu placed ninth with a time of 21.34 seconds.
Selwyn Maxwell was the squad's top finisher in the 110m hurdle final, clocking in with a seventh-place 14.07 second time just ahead of teammate Stephon Henry (14.14).
Henry continued a strong showing with a 52.72 second finish in the 400m hurdles, taking fourth overall, while John Landis picked up a 13th-place finish in the long jump (6.77m).
Amanze Williams shined in the triple jump, taking second overall with a season-best leap of 15.09m, while Harley Lacroix grabbed a bronze medal (14.91m) in the same event. Adam Boucher rounded out an excellent field showing, taking third in the javelin throw with a mark of 67.90m.
