Huskies Wrap Up Day One at 89th Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - Competing in its second-ever Texas Relays, the UConn men's track and field team completed the first of three days at the at the 89th running of the Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday.
"We had a great day," said head coach Greg Roy. "The javelin throwers were fantastic. I was also impressed with performances from Chris Ackell, Stephon Henry, and Craig Hunter. It's great to see these guys come down here and compete. We've got a busy day on tap for Friday."
A pair of Huskies set collegiate-bests in the javelin throw led by a gold-medal 68.50m toss from senior Adam Boucher. Teammate Kevin Foster earned a bronze medal in the event with a career-best 66.73m mark.
Junior standout Craig Hunter collected a fourth-place finish in the pole vault, notching a 5.30m leap, while senior captain Chris Ackell notched a 14th-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 58.55m.
Henry posted a season-best 53.93 second result in the 400m hurdles, taking 43rd overall.

The Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field is home to the Texas Soccer and Texas Track and Field programs. The state-of-the-art facility possesses all the amenities that comprise the top dual-sport venues in the nation. Located adjacent to Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, the complex features a European-style layout with a full-sized soccer field in the center. The stadium seats more than 20,000 spectators and contains two separate scoreboards for track and soccer, full lighting for night events, and ample concessions areas.
