PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - After a three-week layoff following the indoor conference championship, the UConn men's track and field team is set to open its 2016 outdoor season on Saturday, March 26 at the Penn Challenge.
Action at historic Franklin Field is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with the discus throw and will conclude following the 4x400m relay at 6:30 p.m. For a complete meet schedule, please CLICK HERE.
"Anytime you have an early-season meet in the Northeast, you're hoping for good weather," said Husky head coach Greg Roy. "We'll have our whole team out there and will be competing just about everyone as we transition into the outdoor season."
The Huskies will look to continue their outdoor success in their third season competing in the American Athletic Conference. After collecting a third-place finish in the inaugural outdoor conference meet in 2014, the team won the 2015 championship on March 17 in Storrs. In total, Connecticut has won five conference outdoor titles, including four under Roy.
The meet field includes competition from Penn, Army, Rider and Villanova.
The team last competed at Franklin Field in April of 2015 when it participated in the 121st annual Penn Relays on April 24-25. Connecticut will open the season with four away meets before hosting the UConn Decathlon on April 14-15 and the UConn Northeast Challenge on April 16 at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex.
